My laptop screen is wider than before, how do I make it go back to normal?

my lap top's screen resolution is set to 1024x768. But it's wider than before. It got wider after I uninstalled the skype program in my lap top. after that, it all blacked out then when it reappeared, everything is wider. please please help me!! :(
