Does anyone really care about Heath Ledger's death?

Honestly, I never even heard of him before he died. I think most people that say it's so sad that he died never even saw other movies he was in or anything. It's not like he was a huge movie star, people are just making up that they were his biggest fan and stuff just to be cool. I'm not saying anything against the man at all, but I just think it's wrong that people are pretending to care about him more than they did when he was alive. I think I may have worded this kind of harshly, but do you understand what I'm trying to say? Basically, don't you think people should stop whining?
