What causes the flame of a ventless gas fireplace to cut out?

I have a ventless gas fireplace that I inherited from the previous homeowner, without the corresponding user guide. I can get the pilot light lit and keep it lit, but as soon as I turn it on fully such that a full flame erupts, it cuts out after about a minute or two. What would be the most likely cause of that?
